Omega 3 Fatty Acids- What are the benefits?

Omega 3 fatty acids are essential fatty acids that are important for the basic functions required for life.  The fatty acids we will discuss are primarily EPA, DHA, and ETA.  These fatty acids are found in fatty fish foods and are metabolized to form anti-inflammatory compounds in the body.  ETA is the fatty acid found in green lipped mussels and improves the function of EPA and DHA to help reduce inflammation.  These fatty acids are also important for cardiac support, brain health, immune support, and muscle building.

Research collected by the Fatty Acid Institute https://www.faresinst.org/publications--press-releases.html have shown that higher levels of omega 3 fatty acids increase life expectancy in humans by almost 5 years.  Additionally, high DHA levels have shown a 49% lower risk of Alzehimer’s disease. New research shows that omega 3 fatty acid supplementation blocks muscle atrophy or breakdown, which is important in our geriatric populations whose muscle breakdown occurs at a faster rate.

This research is fascinating and could be true for our pet companions as well.  Adding in a good quality Omega 3 with appropriate levels of EPA and DHA is a simple way to reduce whole body inflammation, improve immune function, build skeletal muscle, and improve cognitive function. The addition of ETA aids in the inflammatory benefits of EPA and DHA.

We carry Welactin Advanced with ETA as a more concentrated product, which has the appropriate doses of EPA and DHA with the addition of ETA to compliment the omega 3 fatty acid profile.  Please ask us if this is an appropriate addition to your pet’s supplementation!

We hope you all have a safe and happy holiday season!
